Project Description
#### Blending Heritage Charm with Contemporary Comfort Nestled in the historic suburb of Strathfield, Dr. Samantha Lee’s Federation-era home boasted beautiful bones but lacked the fresh, polished look she desired. Years of indoor humidity and accumulated wear had taken a toll on the once-glorious plaster walls. Cracking cornices, faded colour, and uneven textures made the interiors feel dated—despite tasteful furniture and recent floor upgrades. Strathfield homes often come with ornate detail and historic significance, which means any updates must strike a careful balance between restoration and modernisation. Dr. Lee wanted the space to feel brighter, cleaner, and more contemporary without erasing its heritage features. After colour testing and material review, we decided on a light neutral palette using warm white tones and low-sheen finishes, perfect for highlighting ceiling roses and decorative architraves. #### Precision Meets Preservation The project began with a full room-by-room assessment to identify cracks, peeling, and moisture spots. Our team carefully sanded, patched, and re-rendered where needed—particularly in the dining room and study, where ageing plaster had begun to crumble. Special attention was given to preserving ceiling trims, wood skirting, and picture rails. We used Dulux’s low-VOC Wash&Wear range in “Natural White” on the main walls, paired with “Antique Ivory” on feature areas to complement heritage tones. The matte finish was chosen to reduce glare from the large north-facing windows while enhancing texture uniformity. Each room was sealed with a breathable primer, ensuring long-term durability. #### The Result: A Fresh Interior That Still Feels Like Home Once complete, the transformation was stunning yet subtle. The natural light now flows seamlessly across smooth, freshly painted walls. The new paint scheme brings clarity and elegance to every room while retaining the charm of the original design. Dr. Lee noted that the home now feels more welcoming for both family and guests, and even her antique furniture stands out more against the new clean backdrop. Interior wall painting projects like this prove that modern finishes can enhance—not erase—classic Sydney architecture. In a suburb like Strathfield where character is key, the right paint treatment brings both emotional warmth and long-term property value.
